Stop Socialized Medicine

After witnessing the fall of the Berlin wall and the history of the 20th century, it is almost inconceivable that we are debating socialized medicine once again in this country. Yet, here we are in the thick of it.

The left has been trying unsuccessfully to enact a government-run, national health care system for the last fifty years. Here is a video of Ronald Reagan from 1961 that is still as relevant today as it was then.

The fact that we are having this conversation in America and considering turning life and death decisions about our health care over to a state bureaucracy is beyond belief. What the Obama administration is proposing is not health care “reform.” What they are proposing to do is nothing less than to destroy the best health care system in the world and replace it with a national socialist system — make no mistake about it.

If this goes through, it will be the final nail in America’s coffin. There will be no way to roll back such a massive entitlement program. Even without the current recession, Social security and Medicare have the potential to bankrupt us. Add $2 - $10 trillion worth of Obamacare to the mix and it’s all over.

We are at a critical moment in American history that will determine the future of this country for a long time to come. Fortunately, the tide appears to be turning and a very clear majority of Americans are opposed to the Democrats’ health care bill. If we can keep up the pressure and stop this, there is hope that we can also stop cap-and-trade and begin to push this beast of a government back into its cage.

Here is a good collection of articles on Health Care. The most important essays are the first two, which discuss the principles involved in deciding whether government should be involved in health care. At bottom, this is not just about health care, it’s about the proper relationship between the government and the citizens of a free society.
